Moving deeper into the telecom market, Red Hat has acquired Mobicents, an open source VoIP middleware platform and open source Java Service Logic Execution Environment (JSLEE). The company also has joined the SCOPE Alliance, which is dedicated to building carrier-grade platforms. Red Hat says open source software, platforms and tools are a must for telcos looking to thrive in the increasingly competitive and innovative landscape that is evolving around them. has launched a new Colocation and Hosting service designed specifically
for VoIP service providers and businesses using VoIP. The current lineup for their
hosting services will include a choice of Dell PowerEdge servers with options for
CPU, memory, storage, and RAID. In addition, Vitelity will pre-configure and optimize
each server with either: Asterisk, Trixbox, PBX in a Flash, or a base operating system
such as Windows or Linux. Customers can also ship their pre-configured PBX, switch,
or gateway to Vitelity for Colocation in their soon to be completed 10,000 square-foot
state-of-the-art data center in Denver, CO.

Sipcall Acquired by Droplet Technology

has acquired privately-held Sipcall. Christian Rees, Sipcall's President
and Founder, has joined Droplet as Director of Service Platforms. Financial details
of the deal were not announced.

In April 2008, Sipcall launched "Hipsip," a mobile data service that allows users
to make carrier-friendly VoIP calls worldwide from any mobile phone's web browser,
using only their local mobile calling plan. Droplet has already begun integration
of the Sipcall SIP infrastructure into Droplet's interactive mobile video service
platform.
