Truphone has
added 11 additional Nokia handsets to the list of devices compatible with Truphone
and whose owners can now ring up big savings by taking advantage of Truphone’s broad
range of calling plans and services. With the addition of the 11 new handsets, Truphone
is now compatible on 26 Nokia devices. Of those, software for 14 of the Truphone-compatible
devices can now be downloaded from Nokia’s new Ovi store, with the software for 11
of the remaining 12 new devices to be added to the Ovi store soon.

In addition to the Ovi Store the Truphone application is also available for all 26
Nokia devices as an SMS over the air download from the Truphone web site and will
always parallel the applications available via the Ovi store. The Truphone Web site

Reading recently about Snom releasing a new phone with IPSec VPN capabilities started me thinking about the incredible processing power that embedded devices have these days. It wasn?t so many years ago that IP phones couldn?t offer encryption due to the high CPU demands, but as each passing month goes by, the clock rates go up, new CPUs come out, while the prices go down. Nokia advertised their new N95 smartphone recently, proclaiming that this is ?what the computer has become?, and this is actually true.

Skype is now available on the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet, bringing Skype conversations anywhere in the world where there is an available wireless internet connection (WiFi). Skype for the Nokia N800 will be available for download for existing users. There will also be Skype download links on the latest release of Nokia N800 devices which will be available at retail and on the Skype online store. From coffee shops and public parks to offices to hotels or even on the beach - users will now be able to make Skype calls anywhere they can find a WiFi hotspot.
